'Eid-ul-Fitr

This is a Muslim holiday which marks the end of Ramadan, a holy time where fasting takes place for one month. During the entire month of Ramadan, most Muslims eat no food between sunrise and sunset. At the end of the month, they celebrate 'Eid-ul-Fitr, which is a festival held for 3 days.

Some of the traditions that can be incorporated for 'Eid-ul-Fitr include:

Exchanging gifts;

Donating to a charity; and

Making a charity jar (decorating it and filling it with money to give to someone in need).

America is a diverse country with a mixture of holiday traditions. Incorporating meaningful holiday celebrations into the home can be done by focusing on just one particular holiday or celebrating a few of them.

You may wish to expose your child to all the holiday celebrations in some way. Teaching our children to be respectful of the ways others celebrate holidays is important and the holidays are a wonderful time to talk to your children about the value of diversity in America.
