Heat also causes hair damage. When using appliances like hair dryers and flat irons, keep them on the lowest settings. Even better, allow your hair to dry naturally. Sun damage can also complicate things. Wear a hat when you're out of the sun and cover up your lovely locks to prevent additional issues. Chlorine and saltwater may seem innocuous, but they're not. Pick up shampoos that are made specifically for swimmers. Immediately following a swim, wash salt and chlorine out of the hair using the appropriate shampoos. On the flip side, there is too much of a good thing. Don't wash your hair too often. This causes a flaky scalp and reduces oils that usually protect the hair's roots. Last but not least, if your hair is exposed to cold weather, perform a weekly deep treatment that will prevent it from drying out. By taking a proactive approach in hair care, your mane is less likely to end up on the chopping block.
