There are plenty of safety recommendations to avoid making this deadly mistake. Never leave your child alone in the car, not even for a minute. If you spot a child alone in a vehicle, call 911 immediately. When you're getting out of the car, check all seats to make sure you haven't forgotten anything... or anyone. Keep a toy or stuffed animal in the car seat. When your child is in the car, keep the stuffed animal in the front where it's visible to you. Always keep your computer, briefcase or purse in the backseat. This ensures you have to look in the backseat when exiting the vehicle. Hide your keys and keep car doors locked. In the event you cannot locate your child, always check your car first. If your child doesn't show up for school, make sure you are contacted by the provider.
