Also explain the consequences of not taking the medicine - no games, no parties, no movies, no outdoor play. Give him the option of feeding it to himself. Some children do better taking medicine if they are the ones in control. If it becomes a major struggle, give your child a few minutes. Inform your child that he still has to take the medicine; however, he can have a few minutes to collect himself. If he's still fighting you on it, recruit another parent or loved one to take over. That person may have better luck with the child. If there is a medication that you have to take on a regular basis, take your medicine with your child so he doesn't feel like he's in it alone. Reward your child for cooperating, whether it's a sticker, a piece of candy or some other small token. This positive reinforcement will give him a reason to cooperate the next time around.
