How to Keep Your Baked Goodies Fresh Longer

I like the idea of using a cloth towel when freezing baked goods. Although I have to say I have used paper towels when freezing store bought bread putting it right next to the bread and then sealing well and adding another plastic bag and sealing well again. I've not had the paper towels disintegrate and they did keep frost from forming. The bread was nice and fresh. But I will try the cloth towel, I like that idea even better. I also have used a cloth towel or paper towels in my lettuce or other vegetables that I'm storing in the refrigerator. It pulls the moisture out and they last much longer. Votes: +6

I also use paper towels for my fruit and vegetables, but I wrap a cloth around my unused bread in the Feezer,and a large bag over it.something I learned from my mother, some emecfmany years ago. Votes: +4

Cookies - half an apple - is that for counter storage or freezer? Doesnt the apple get brown and shriveled? How about freezing cookies so they don't become crumbled when thawed? I bake 2,500 cookies each year for the holiday season and I have been freezing them for as far back as I remember. I use good quality plastic containers and make sure I burp the container to get the air out. Works like a charm.Just take them out of the freezer, open the container and let them defrost. Votes: +3

My Grand Mother always made her own Bread, I always waited with glee until it came out of her old wood burning stove oven!! and I remember she always wraped it in cheese cloth for storage ,, Back in the days of no freezer or even a refridgerator,,Just pure Bread,, How did we all survive !!!LOL I wrap mine loosley in damp cheese cloth and then double wrap in Bead bags I purchese from the bread outlet stores,the bread always comes out great even after several Months Votes: -1
