And check for stains or other signs of leakage - don't buy the item if it's stained, leaky or not sealed. If the item has been exposed to air, then the quality could have degraded. If it's unsealed and someone else touched it, then that could introduce bacteria. Also check labels for ingredients that you can read. Foreign products may contain ingredients in a language you can understand; otherwise, you risk an allergic reaction or worse. Lipsticks and cream foundations are susceptible to heat damage, and sometimes products can sit around for awhile in hot warehouses. It's best to either steer clear of these items or check to make sure the product is still emulsified and hasn't separated. Check pressed powders for breakage by holding to your ear and shaking lightly to hear particles shifting - if you hear anything, don't buy it. Get a great deal by shopping cheaply - and wisely.
