Once you have an understanding, then you can focus on the romantic part of your relationship. One of the most important things to discuss before you start shacking up is money. Financial issues can make or break a relationship, so again, get them out in the open. This includes any credit problems, debt or other hiccups. Will you share a bank account or maintain individual accounts? How will household expenses such as rent and utilities be paid? Different spending habits can breed resentment, so establish a budget and stick to it. It may help to create a shared goal, such as saving for a wedding or trip, in order to create a nest egg. Finally, remember to maintain an element of spontaneity in your relationship. Don't get too "settled" – surprise each other with treats and romantic evenings to keep the spark alive.
