Does the mere mention of hot oil treatments give you flashbacks of the '80s? Well, take heart -- and heat -- these hair care treatments are still alive and well and exactly what your badly-damaged 'do may need. If you've flat-ironed, blow-dried and colored your hair to death, a hot oil treatment may be just what you require to bring your hair back to life. We're talking about making the transformation from dull and dry to shiny and healthy. For some, a weekly hot oil treatment is just what the hairdresser ordered. With hot oil treatments, the container of oil is heated in hot water for a set amount of time. Fancier brands heat themselves. There are plenty of brands on the market -- ranging from VO5 to Pantene. Prices for at-home oil treatments range from $3 to $20 depending on which type you choose. Salon treatments can run you anywhere from $25 to $100. Of course, you're paying for a professional job. The key is to opt for a treatment made of natural essential oils like Jojoba, jasmine, olive and coconut oils, which are among the most popular. Once you've heated the hot oil, apply it to all of your hair. Be sure not to miss any spots. Leave in for 30 minutes. While some treatments call for less, you'll reap more results with longer treatments. After the time is up, wash your hair with shampoo using a mild shampoo made for dry hair. To prepare your own at-home treatment, combine three tablespoons of olive oil and three tablespoons of canola oil. Mix well and heat until warm in the microwave. Let it cool. Pour mix into your hands and work into hair from the ends up to the scalp. Wrap hair in a warm towel and leave in for 30 minutes. Rinse with a mild shampoo. Treat your hair right tonight!
