No white after Labor Day. No horizontal stripes. No heels for tall women. We've all grown up hearing these rules from our moms, grandmothers or whoever else saw fit to comment on fashion. But many of them just don't hold water anymore. In fact, some of these former fashion faux pas are actually encouraged in today's world of couture. First, know that white can be right, regardless of the time of year. Sure, you may get some funny looks, depending on where you live - the South is pretty adamant about not breaking this rule - but creamy whites are perfect for winter, especially in articles of clothing. Many celebrities have made white a permanent part of their wardrobes. Why shouldn't you? Another alleged no-no is wearing heels if you're tall. Forget about it! Heels are glamorous on anyone, regardless of height, and it does wonders to elongate and flatter your legs. Just don't slouch if you're vertically gifted - that's definitely a no-no. Another look that's all the rage is sequins, which are not just for evening anymore. That's not to say it's OK to wear a sequin-encrusted evening gown to work, but a small pop of sparkle perks up any outfit.
