Humidity-Proof Hair
Warm weather is a time for beauty give and take…you get gorgeous, sunkissed skin, but humidity means frizzed-out and sometimes flat hair. Or does it? Get prepared before the weather starts getting really hairy by hydrating your hair. Start with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. It may seem counterintuitive to add moisture to your hair when that’s exactly what humidity does, but most products are formulated to smooth hair without weighing it down. Try products with silicone or argan oil for the smoothest effect. Finish damp hair with a smoothing serum – John Freida products are popular and effective. A stylist favorite is Moroccanoil, which contains moisturizing but lightweight argan oil, plus vitamins, minerals and sunscreen to protect hair from summer sun. Consider keeping your hair long instead of getting a shorter summer cut – the length will help weigh down wayward frizz and curls. If your hair is curly or wavy, then try going with the flow this summer instead of fighting hair into straight submission.Use a diffuser on your hair dryer to encourage soft curls or let hair dry naturally. When wavy hair is hydrated, it can look beautiful and beachy, a hot trend for summer. Wavy hair can be swept into a low ponytail or braids to give you worry-free control. And when in doubt, there’s nothing wrong with sweeping hair into a loose ponytail. Keep it casual, though – try teasing roots around your face to add height and lessen the severity of pulled-back hair. A bun at the nape of the neck is a stylish option for evening or a business setting. And if humidity gets the best of your style midday, then give roots a spray of extra hold hairspray. Hold hair up straight with a hairbrush as hair dries. Give it a little tease if hair still falls flat, and pull it away from your face in a headband if all else fails. Summer humidity can get the best of your hair – but only if you let it.
