Classic Fried Dough

Classic fried dough is one of the most popular street foods in Italy, even making its way onto the menus of some of the country's most elegant restaurants. With this recipe, you can get your fix of Italia from the comfort of your own home.

Classic Fried Dough


For 1 people

  • 4 cup(s) flour
  • 4 tablespoon(s) shortening
  • 2 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 4 ounce(s) warm water
  • 2 pkgs. yeast, dissolved together with 1/2 cup warm water
  • 16 ounce(s) warm water


Use a bowl with a cover. Combine liquids; add flour, shortening and salt. Mix well. Grease top of dough lightly. Put in bowl and cover. Let air out of bowl every 15-20 minutes. Let rise 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Shape dough with fingers. Put in hot grease and fry until golden brown.
