
Hot dogs in Beer with Sauerkraut Relish
Hot dog! This is a good meal. Let us be frank -- there are few hot dog recipes that compare to this one. It's heaven on a bun.
Ingredients
- 6 hot dogs
- 3 12-oz. cans of beer
- 6 soft French sandwich rolls or hot dog buns, split and toasted
- 6 teaspoon(s) various mustards
- 3 tablespoon(s) vinegar
- 3 teaspoon(s) sugar
- 1 teaspoon(s) pickling spice
- 1 teaspoon(s) caraway seed
- 1 cup(s) sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
- 1/4 cup(s) finely chopped sweet red pepper
Instructions
- Prick several holes in the skin of the hot dogs.
- In a large pot combine hot dogs and beer and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer, covered for about 20 minutes or until no longer pink.
- Drain.
- Grill hot dogs over medium heat for 7 to 8 minutes or until skins are golden, turning frequently.
- Serve on buns with mustards and sauerkraut relish.
- For relish: Combine vinegar and sugar.
- Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved.
- Stir in pickling spice and caraway.
- Stir in sauerkraut and pepper.
- Cover and chill until serving time.
- Serve with hot dogs.
