Flavored Apple Pie

Nothing says tradition quite like apple pie. When you have people lining up for a slice, you don't want to run out. So double the ingredients and bake two pies for the price of one. It won't go to waste.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cup(s) sugar
  • 1/4 cup(s) cornstarch
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
  • 3 cup(s) fresh rhubarb cut in 1-inch pieces
  • 2 large tart apples, pared, cored and chunked
  • 2 tablespoon(s) butter
  • 1 teaspoon(s) vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Combine sugar, cornstarch, salt and cinnamon.
  • Toss with rhubarb and apples until well mixed.
  • Let stand 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Add vanilla and mix well, pour into pastry-lined 9-inch pie plate, dot with butter and cover with the top crust or lattice top and seal.
  • Bake in 400-degree oven about 55 to 60 min.
  • Brush top with melted butter, and sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon sugar.
