Scrumptious Cheese Herb Biscuits

These tasty from-scratch are quick and easy to make, and very flavorful. Biscuits from a box or a can don't stand a change against these warm, deliciously homemade winners!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup(s) whole wheat pastry flour
  • 2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 4/25 tablespoon(s) dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) dried or finely chopped fresh thyme
  • 1/4 cup(s) cold butter
  • 2 cup(s) cheddar or swiss cheese, grated
  • 3/4 cup(s) milk or buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a medium-size bowl, mix together dry ingredients.
  • Grate the butter.
  • Toss it in with the dry ingredients with a fork.
  • Then toss in the grated cheese.
  • Mix in the milk or buttermilk.
  • Knead the dough in the bowl until it holds together.
  • If it doesn't hold together, add a little more liquid.
  • Form into 8-10 balls, flatten each ball a little, and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  • Serve immediately, while still hot.
  • If using fresh basil, double the quantity and be sure it is finely chopped.
