Meatballs in Sweet and Sour Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup(s) bread crumbs, dry, grated, plain
  • 2 tablespoon(s) chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoon(s) whole milk
  • 1 pound(s) ground beef
  • 5 ounce(s) water chestnuts, diced and drained
  • 1 large green pepper, seeded and cut into strips
  • 8 ounce(s) 1 can (8 ounces) pineapple tidbits, drained with juice saved
  • 1/2 cup(s) juice, pineapple, reserved from can
  • 1/2 cup(s) sugars, brown
  • 1/4 cup(s) vinegar, cider
  • 2 tablespoon(s) corn starch
  • 1 tablespoon(s) soy sauce made from soy (tamari)

Instructions
 

  • Mix meatball ingredients down to hamburger.
  • Make into 24 1-inch meatballs and brown in medium skillet.
  • Heat Sauce ingredients in medium saucepan.
  • Cook and stir over low heat until thickened and bubbly.
  • Stir in cooked meatballs, pineapple tidbits, water chestnuts, and green pepper.
  • Heat to boiling.
  • Serve with cooked rice.
  • Ready in 1 hour.
