Steer clear of the peanut butter-filled chocolate eggs, "cream"-filled chocolate eggs, or white and milk chocolate if you're watching your diet. Better yet, fill the family's baskets with non-food treats that they'll really appreciate, like gift cards, small dollar-store toys, stickers, craft supplies or great-smelling candles, lotions or perfumes for the older recipients. Once the kids have found all the dyed Easter eggs, turn them into a tasty, nutritious appetizer or meal by whipping up deviled eggs or egg salad. A super lower-fat substitute for mayonnaise can be plain nonfat yogurt and sour cream. Serve on whole-grain bread for a fabulous Easter picnic or serve over greens and enjoy a serving of veggies.
