Cheap Date? Why Not?

Times are tough, even on those who are trying to show their mates a good time. So why not take your significant other on a cheap date? It's not as awful as it sounds - money can't buy love, right? There are tons of fun things to do when you're watching your budget. Start by picking up a guide - whether it's tourist brochures or a newspaper - that details the things there are to do in and around your town. The number of fun and affordable things to do may surprise you. If you and your beloved are oenophiles - that is, you love wine - then find a winery or wine shop in town that offers tastings. They're usually offered for a nominal fee - less than $10 per person - and are sometimes free. After the tasting, take a stroll together. Do some window shopping or take a hike if you're outdoorsy.

Don't think board games are just child's play - they're a fun way to spend an evening in, and to spice things up, you and your mate might consider a friendly wager over who wins. Perhaps the loser bakes up a batch of the winner's favorite baked goods or makes dinner one night. Or...you can use your imagination to dream up a more risque reward. Try a twist on the same old movie night by making it special. Ask him "out" on the date by putting together a basket full of movie goodies, including microwave popcorn, movie candy and dress it up like a gift. Make it nostalgic by screening the first film you ever saw together, or if you're a new-ish couple, watch a classic that neither of you have seen - think Casablanca or Dr. Zhivago.
