Calorie-Free Pumpkin Indulgences

Looking for a gourd that makes you gorgeous, inside and out? Look no further than pumpkin, which is packed with antioxidants and vitamins that beautify skin, hair and more. You can eat it or slather it on - whichever you choose, the results will have you giving thanks! Add a handful of roasted pumpkin seeds to your trail mix or sprinkle on top of salads for a crunchy, zinc-rich snack. For the blemish-prone, getting lots of zinc in your diet can help ward off breakouts. Bake up some pumpkin-y treats like breads, soups and cookies. Small, sugar pumpkins and other sweet varieties are perfect for baking and easy to handle. Just cut in half, discard stems and scoop out stringy pulp. Save seeds for roasting. Put the halves face down in a shallow baking dish and cover with foil. Bake at 375 degrees for about 90 minutes for a medium-sized pumpkin.

You can scoop the pulp out after it cools to use for cooking - or to make your own beauty masks. Just take two teaspoons of the pulp and mix with 1/2 teaspoon of honey, plus 1/4 teaspoon of milk or cream if your skin is very dry. Apply to a clean face and avoid the eyes. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, then cleanse face, pat dry and moisturize. If your skin is looking a little lifeless and dull, try a homemade pumpkin scrub. Mix 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Mix together and apply to your body, starting with feet and working your way up. Shower off. It's messy but worth it when you see the benefits of pumpkin.
