And check for stains or other signs of leakage - don't buy the item if it's stained, leaky or not sealed. If the item has been exposed to air, then the quality could have degraded. If it's unsealed and someone else touched it, then that could introduce bacteria. Also check labels for ingredients that you can read. Foreign products may contain ingredients in a language you can understand; otherwise, you risk an allergic reaction or worse.
