Almost Classic Stroganoff
Beef Stroganoff is a Russian dish of sautéed pieces of beef served in a sauce with sour cream. From its origins in 19th-century Russia, it has become popular in much of Europe, North America, Australia, South Africa, and Brazil, with considerable variation in the actual recipe. This one is made with cream-style cottage cheese.
Ingredients
1 1/2 lb. lean beef, ground
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup onions, Chopped
1 cup cream-style cottage cheese
6 oz. tomato paste
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 dash pepper
4 oz. mushrooms, Sliced, drained
14 oz. beef broth
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup onions, Chopped
1 cup cream-style cottage cheese
6 oz. tomato paste
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 dash pepper
4 oz. mushrooms, Sliced, drained
14 oz. beef broth
Methods/steps
In skillet, brown ground beef, flour, and onion; drain well. Place in crockpot.
Whip cottage cheese until smooth; add tomato paste and seasonings.
Mix well and add to meat mixture with mushrooms and beef broth. stir until slightly blended.
Cover and cook on “high” setting for 1 hour.
Turn to “low” setting and cook for 4 to 6 hours.
