We all know that charity begins at home. However, how many parents really know how to get their children involved in volunteering? Although there are some opportunities that are more age-appropriate than others, your child is never too young to lend a helping hand. There are plenty of reasons to get your children involved in volunteering. Giving back to the community gives your child a sense of responsibility and teaches him the importance of making commitments and keeping them. It shows children that one person can have an impact. In addition, children learn the importance of making sacrifices while also accepting people from all walks of life. Bottom line - you want to rear children who have a sense of empathy for others. There's no better way to teach your children about volunteering than by leading by example. You are your child's role model - so let the volunteering start with you. Finding the right activity is up to you. Check out the Web sites for your city or county.
