A Pizza Heaven for Kids

When it comes to cooking, there's nothing quite like getting your kids in on the act, especially if they're finicky eaters. Your child will have even more incentive to polish off his meal when he's the one to prepare it. In addition to getting a helping hand in the kitchen, cooking dinner together is also a great way to bond with your child. For a dinner that's truly amore, make tonight pizza night. While culinary veterans may want to make their own dough from scratch, there's ready-made dough at your fingertips. Pay a visit to your local Italian mart to get all of the ingredients you need. Buy a dough ball from the freezer section. Some stores may have fresh dough balls over in the bakery. You can also find dough balls in the bakery at Publix and other major grocery stores. Next, pick up a container of fresh marinara or pizza sauce. If you prefer, go for a jar of sauce instead. Then say "cheese." Nothing beats freshly shredded mozzarella. Many people opt for mozzarella balls which they shred themselves. What's a pizza without toppings? The possibilities are endless. Buy pre-packaged pepperoni or a stick of pepperoni.

Behind the meat counter, you'll also find Italian sausage or ground beef. Or hit the deli counter for prosciutto or ham. In the produce section, pick up green peppers, onions, mushrooms, pineapple, tomatoes or any other veggies that your child enjoys. When you get home, set up a pizza station for child. Have the ingredients cut up and put into small bowls. Throw some flour down on the counter. Have your child roll out the dough and use his fingers to gently mold the dough into a circular shape. If he gets discouraged because it's not perfectly round, encourage him to make an original masterpiece. Once the dough is in good shape, have him put the sauce, cheese and toppings. If you don't have a clay pizza stone or pizza tray, you can use a cookie sheet. You can also find disposable metal pizza trays in the grocery store. After you pull the pizza out of the oven, let you child use the pizza cutter to cut up his mini pie. It's sure to be a meal he will remember.
