Engaging News: Exes Mark Their Spots

Nothing says "I'm over you" like another engagement. Over the weekend, the exes of LeAnn Rimes and Nick Lachey did their best to one-up their former spouses by reportedly becoming engaged. Just one week after Lachey and long-time lover Vanessa Minnilo went public with their plans to wed, singer Jessica Simpson accepted the proposal of washed-up NFL player Eric Johnson. The two became an item this past May, and Johnson's divorce was official five months later. No reason to let the marital bed get cold! The timing is obviously suspect considering that Lachey "just" asked Minnillo to walk down the aisle after five years together. Simpson is supposedly madly in love with Johnson. However, some people believe he's simply riding her coattails of fame, which is ironically what they said about Lachey too. The only difference is she's a lot less famous these days with her career having stalled out. And while rumors of Rimes' engagement to Eddie Cibrian may not be true, that's not stopping her ex Dean Sheremet from proposing to girlfriend Sarah Silver. An insider told Us Weekly that, "They were having a nice morning together and the moment felt right, so he proposed." It's hard to believe that Sheremet has ever felt right about proposing to a woman, considering he's been dogged by rumors of being gay for years. However, he had no problem handing over a 3-carat antique ring to Silver. The couple is planning a summer wedding.
