Chaz Bono: From Dancing Feet to Cold Feet

It's official. The engagement between Chaz Bono and fiancee Jennifer Elia is no more. The longtime couple not only called off the wedding, they also pulled the plug on their 12-year relationship. It seems like just yesterday that the Dancing with the Stars contestant popped the question to Elia, although it was actually last month on his reality show Being Chaz. That said, Bono's rep maintains there are no hard feelings between the two. Howard Bragman tells TMZ, "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection toward one another. No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time." Following the announcement, Bono Tweeted, "Thanks for your concern about our separation. I'm doing fine, and we remain on good terms with nothing but respect and affection 4 each other." Over the last year, Elia admitted that she had fallen off the wagon after Bono decided to get a sex change almost four years ago. The recovering alcoholic told Piers Morgan back in May that she used Bono's decision to change genders as a copout for relapsing. Last spring Elia said, "Well I can't blame it solely on Chaz's transition, my sobriety has always been a problem. When he told me about this, I used it as a pass to fall off the wagon which is what alcoholics tend to do. I was sober when we met, when things go bad, I drink. When Chaz told me about this, I told him I needed a drink." At that time, she had been sober a year and two months. No word on whether or not those issues played a role in the couple's surprising split.
