Just days before the pinnacle of his revived career, Oscar contender Mickey Rourke was dealt a crushing blow when his pet Chihuahua Loki passed away. Loki was 18 in people years and 156 in dog years, which made him positively ancient. Ironically, Rourke recently revealed to Barbara Walters that when he was at his darkest hour and didn't want to go on, it was man's best friend who saved his life. "I don't have kids. The dogs became everything to me. The dog was looking at me going, 'Who's going to take care of me?" During the highs and lows of his career, the 52-year-old actor's four-legged friends always remained loyal, even when he was dead broke and out of work. Rourke's frequently been seen out on the town carrying little Loki and even thanked his dogs when accepting his Golden Globe award: "I'd like to thank all my dogs, the ones who are here and the ones who aren't here anymore... Sometimes, when a man is alone, that's all you got is your dog. And they've meant the world to me." R.I.P., Loki.
