R.I.P. Greg Giraldo: 1966-2010
Greg Giraldo won't be the last comic standing. The popular funnyman succumbed to a prescription drug overdose five days after being hospitalized. The 44-year-old was discovered by a friend the day after performing at the Stress Factory comedy club in New Brunswick, N.J. Sources maintain that the overdose was not suicide, but accidental. Giraldo had been hospitalized in critical condition since last Friday. The family insider tells TMZ, "Greg passed away today at the hospital in New Brunswick as a result of an accidental overdose. His family was by his side." In addition to being a fixture on the celebrity roast circuit, Girlado was best known for his role as a judge on NBC's Last Comic Standing. Giraldo was scheduled to perform at the Governor's Comedy Club this weekend. A memorial will be held at the venue instead, and donations will be taken in lieu of an admission fee. All donations will go to Giraldo's family - he leaves behind three children. Girlado's death comes soon after comedian Robert Schimmel died from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier this month.
