DJ AM's Iron-Clad Appearance

Death won't be keeping the late Adam Goldstein from making his film debut. As was the case when Heath Ledger's untimely death interrupted the production and release of his last films, the director of the upcoming Iron Man sequel grappled with axing the DJ's appearance in the film. Ultimately, DJ AM, who died in August 2009 of an accidental overdose, made the cut for the movie, which will hit theaters May 7. Director Jon Favreau told People magazine, "We tried to make it respectful, and for people who know him, they'll get a kick out of it, and for people who don't, it will sort of slide by without much notice." AM's part is true to life - he plays himself scratching records at Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) Malibu home during his birthday party. Stark dances to DJ AM's mix of Tupac Shakur's "California Love," and when a fight breaks out, Stark says, "Adam, I need a fat beat." Favreau considered replacing AM with another DJ or cutting the scene completely, but at the urging of AM's family and friends, he left it in. And he did the late DJ another solid by dedicating the film to him.
