Farrah Fawcett: 1947-2009

Blonde beauty Farrah Fawcett lost her battle with anal cancer Thursday morning at the age of 62. By the former pinup's side were Fawcett's long-time partner and soulmate Ryan O'Neal, who announced their engagement last week after 30 years together. In an interview with Barbara Walters, O'Neal told 20/20 that he and Fawcett would tie the knot when Fawcett could say, "I do." It appears they never got the chance. O'Neal, obviously devastated at losing his partner, told People magazine, "She's gone. She now belongs to the ages. She's now with her mother and sister and her God. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her so very, very much. She was in and out of consciousness. I talked to her all through the night. I told her how very much I loved her. She's in a better place now. She was with her team when she passed ... Her eyes were open, but she didn't say anything. But you could see in her eyes that she recognized us." Fawcett's best friend, actress Alana Stewart, was also keeping vigil at Fawcett's bedside when she died. Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006 and was declared cancer-free after four months of treatment, including surgery. The cancer returned in 2007 with a vengeance and spread throughout her body. Putting on a brave face, the actress documented her battle with the disease in a special that aired on NBC earlier last month. Fawcett is survived by her 24-year-old son Redmond O'Neal, who is currently in jail following multiple arrests for drugs. He was let out to see his mother back in April when her condition began to deteriorate.
