American Idol: The Home Stretch

The final three singers duked it out on Tuesday's show with judges' selections and their own. The usual whirlwind hometown trips were also incorporated, along with the requisite shrieking. But enough about Adam, who sang "One" by U2 - a favor Simon phoned in to none other than Bono himself - and "Cryin'" by Aerosmith, which he described as one of the "great old songs" of the band, making 30somethings everywhere feel horribly old. Paula chose "Dance Little Sister" for Danny Gokey because apparently we haven't seen enough of his abysmal dancing this season. His second choice was "You Are So Beautiful," in which he channeled past "winner" Taylor Hicks (who?). Randy and Kara smiled upon Kris Allen, giving him the hugely popular "Apologize" by OneRepublic. He chose the equally current and popular "Heartless" for his second song in a really pleasant performance. Did his hard work pay off? Ohhh yeah - it's Kris and Adam in the finals.
The real drama happened backstage, though, where former runner-up and new dad Clay Aiken showed up, which made things more awkward than trying to listen to Paula formulate a coherent thought. See, Aiken quit 19 Entertainment and urged Kelly Clarkson to do so as well, cutting off the cash cows that they were for Idol's record company. So according to the Chicago Sun-Times, Aiken is persona non grata around Idol parts. He even hit up Glambert to do a duet on his next album...awkward!
