Vanity Fair Not Down With Brown
Posted: Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Somebody needs to tell Vanity Fair that brown is the new black. Despite the extraordinary success of the Oscar-nominated flick Slumdog Millionaire, the magazine took the liberty of minimizing the ethnic appearance of leading lady Freida Pinto... by whitening her skin. Pinto, who is an Indian actress and model, has appeared in TV and print ads for Wrigleys Chewing Gum, ?koda, Hutch, Airtel, and De Beers, all of whom didn't feel the need to digitally alter Pinto's natural skin color. So far Vanity Fair hasn't issued a statement about the very visible whitewashing effect. They can always blame the lighting for the lightening.

And the award goes to?you, if you can ace our Oscars quiz!
