Talk about a true Hollywood tragedy. In a span of two weeks, respected actor Tim Robbins lost both his 80-year-old father and his 78-year-old mother. It was a devastating blow for the Shawshank Redemption leading man. On April 5, Robbins' father Gil succumbed to prostate cancer, leaving behind his wife of 59 years. The loss proved to be too much for Mary, who died in the couple's Mexico home just 12 days later. Mary died of a broken heart... literally. According to the Los Angeles Times, she suffered a heart arrhythmia. Robbins' parents were professional musicians in the '50s and '60s. This wasn't Mary's first brush with death. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she beat colon cancer with the help of holistic medicine and later went on to earn a bachelor's degree in holistic nutrition. She spent some of her time volunteering at a clinic in Mexico. In a statement to the Associated Press, Robbins said his mom "had a calm and cheerful demeanor, a sharp wit, a gentle spirit and a generous and loving heart." Mary and Gil were survived by four children and four grandchildren.
