The Situation Goes to Rehab

Jersey Shore star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino has a major situation on his hands. The hard-partying reality star has checked into a rehab facility to treat his substance abuse issues. And according to sources, it's not a moment too soon. Insiders tell TMZ that The Sitch had been out of control for some time now. However, he has gotten progressively worse. In a recent episode of the hit MTV show, the 30-year-old television personality is seen pacing, sweating and acting paranoid. Of course, Sorrentino's camp maintains that he's not suffering from drug or alcohol issues, but exhaustion. His rep tells Radaronline.com, "He is not in rehab for substance abuse. He has spent the last several weeks at an undisclosed location for much-needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule." Another source tells Radaronline.com that The Situation simply needs some time to himself, which is exactly what rehab will provide. Says the source, "Mike is focusing on recuperation after a very long trip through Australia and getting rested up for season six. His friends and family know where he is; he just wants to get away from the public and be on his own for a bit to relax." The cast and crew are supposedly happy that Sorrentino is looking to slay those substance abuse demons and make a comeback for the upcoming season, another insider tells TMZ. Late Wednesday, the Sitch issued a statement saying he'd "voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion." He continues, "I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans support and love you guys."
