One of the busiest stars on TV is about to get busier. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that if Matt Lauer gives up his post as Today show anchor next year, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest would be a top choice to replace him. Seacrest is already employed by NBCUniversal, which owns E! Seacrest's own production company, responsible for masterpieces like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, is part of the company as well. NBC bigwigs met with Seacrest Tuesday to discuss the prospect, but the talks are in very early stages, so Seacrest shouldn't start setting his alarm earlier just yet. Lauer has had the morning gig since 1997, and earlier this year, he began expressing interest in leaving the show. His contract is up in December 2012, and Seacrest's contract expires in early 2012. Until then, Seacrest has a full plate, as always - he'll continue producing, hosting E! News, hosting American Idol and closing out the new year on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve.
