Oscars Producer Ousted After Using Slur
Brett Ratner has certainly lived up to his last name in recent weeks, talking smack about exes Olivia Munn and Lindsay Lohan, then using a homophobic slur while promoting his new film, Tower Heist. Despite having the job of Oscars producer bestowed on him just five days ago, Ratner stepped down after catching heat for being a generally disgusting human being. Munn kicked things off by describing her relationship with Ratner graphically in her new tell-all book. Then Ratner told Howard Stern he'd "banged her a few times" "before she was Asian." Ratner claims to have forced a "very young" Lohan to get tested for STDs before his sessions with her on the casting couch. But the piece de resistance was the Rush Hour director's answer in a Q&A about how often he rehearses. "Rehearsal is for f*gs," Ratner replied. After multiple condemnations from Academy head honchos and GLAAD, Ratner announced that he'd step down from his work on the show. In a statement, Ratner wrote, "So many artists and craftspeople in our business are members of the LGBT community, and it pains me deeply that I may have hurt them. I should have known this all along, but at least I know it now: words do matter...Having love in your heart doesn't count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted. With this in mind, and to all those who understandably feel that apologies are not enough, please know that I will be taking real action over the coming weeks and months in an effort to do everything I can both professionally and personally to help stamp out the kind of thoughtless bigotry I've so foolishly perpetuated." Ratner's mistakes extended to his handpicked host, Eddie Murphy, who announced that he would step down from hosting Wednesday.
