Ryan O'Neal's memoir Both of Us: My Life with Farrah is due to hit bookshelves on May 1, but his kids are already speaking out about the tome. Tatum and Redmond O'Neal are denouncing their dad's account of his life and theirs, blaming Ryan O'Neal's "narcissistic tendencies" for his words painting him in the best light possible. Tatum O'Neal, his costar in their failed OWN reality show, Ryan & Tatum: The O'Neals, has written her own books, saying it's cathartic but that her father has gone about it all wrong: "She just wishes Ryan's book focused more on facts. Tatum thinks Ryan is attempting to re-write history and endear himself to the public," a source tells RadarOnline.com. Some of those little fibs include Ryan recanting the confession that he didn't even recognize his daughter at Farrah Fawcett's funeral and even attempted to hit on her. At the time, O'Neal told Vanity Fair about a "beautiful blonde" who approached him. He said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me--Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick." In the memoir, he explains the incident as a longtime inside joke between daughter and dad. And son Redmond does not appreciate his dad's account of Redmond's 2008 drug bust. Of the crystal meth cops found in Ryan's room, he gives the old "I was holding it for my son" excuse, saying he planned to dispose of it but didn't get a chance to do so before cops raided their home. A source speaking for the intensely private Redmond told Radar, "Let's be very clear about something, yes, there were drugs that were Redmond's that cops found, but the drugs found in Ryan's room were absolutely 100% his, and not Redmond's. Period." Ryan O'Neal skipped several book-promoting events Monday, most notably on the Today show, due to illness. O'Neal recently announced that he has stage 2 prostate cancer; however, a source close to the show told Radar that O'Neal was ready to appear on the show when producers informed him that he'd be asked about his kids' reaction to the memoir. "Ryan had already completed hair and make-up and he was very upset when the producers told him about the subject matter. All of a sudden, he just said, 'I'm not feeling well, and I'm leaving.' Ryan didn't appear to be ill, and he bolted," a source said.
