In a desperate bid to bring more star power to the dying reality show, the producers of Celebrity Rehab reached out to Liza Minnelli to come aboard. Apparently, the former show stopper isn't that desperate for money since she turned down an offer in the $500k range. TMZ broke the story that the Arthur actress was being courted by Dr. Drew's people. With no heavyweight celebrity to give top billing to, the VH-1 reality show may not live to save another day. It's possible Minnelli didn't want to give people the wrong idea, seeing as how she's still on the wagon. Producers actually were recruiting her more as a person who's been there, done that. A source tells TMZ, "We want her in the Mackenzie Phillips/Gary Busey position -- already sober but strengthening her sobriety. We would not portray her as a drug addict." Minnelli has supposedly been clean since a stint in rehab for alcoholism back in 2004. Although talks between Minnelli and the producers have supposedly stalled out, they still have Tila Tequila, Jason Wahler and some random rapper on the substance abuse bandwagon. According to other reports, producers had also set their sights on Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, after she attempted to sell out her ex-husband Prince Andrew. Ironically, her rep denies that she would sink as low as to appear on Celebrity Rehab, which is saying a lot given her current debacle. Says the rep, "As far as we know, there has been no approach. She absolutely would not do that. Obviously she's got a long battle ahead of her, but that doesn't mean she'll be hopping on every celebrity show."
