He's baaaaaaaaaaaaack. After two years of virtual silence, John Mayer is running his stupid mouth yet again. Of course, this time, he has a purpose and is actually staying levelheaded. The acclaimed 34-year-old singer is making the rounds to promote his new album Born and Raised, which will be released on May 22. In one of his first interviews back on the scene, Mayer admits that he may have been a little too loose with his lips back in the day. He tells Ellen DeGeneres, "It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult. For a couple of years it was just figuring it all out, and I'm glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight. Because I think back then I would of said, 'Give me two weeks or let me get out and do Ellen and let me explain myself.' It was like, 'No, idiot. Go away and be 33 and 34 instead of 28 for the fourth year." Mayer took a hiatus from the spotlight after overstepping his bounds in two separate interviews with Playboy and Rolling Stone. In the Playboy interview, he compared his chemistry with ex galpal Jessica Simpson to "sexual napalm." He also opened up about his split with on-again, off-again girlfriend Jennifer Aniston, blaming it on his Tweeting addiction. Following the media backlash, Mayer wisely slithered back into the shadows for the next two years. Of course, that's not the only self-imposed silence to which Mayer has been subjected. The "Say" singer had to cancel his upcoming tour after a granuloma formed on his vocal cord, a medical condition that first derailed Mayer last fall. Mayer definitely downplayed the problem during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show saying, "It's not a health concern whatsoever, but it has taken me out of singing. I tried to beat it the first time and couldn't." Ironically, it is a medical condition that has forced the singer to shut up this time around.
