Serial philanderer Jesse James has proclaimed 2010 the "best year of [his] life." That statement might shock some, considering James shuttered his West Coast Choppers shop, went through an ugly custody battle with his daughter's mother, Janine Lindemulder, and most of all, was reviled by pretty much everyone for cheating on Sandra Bullock. The divorce was finalized last June just in time for James to take up with Kat Von D, who was fresh off her relationship with Nikki Sixx. Now the couple is announcing their engagement. James told People, "You know sometimes the public and press gets it wrong. This is one of those times. 2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend. An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs. I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day. My love for her is beyond description. So honored that she said 'yes.' Growing old with her is going to be a f----n' blast!" There was speculation over the weekend that the two had gotten very serious - Kat Von D was wearing a huge rock at the Art of Elysium gala Saturday night, sending tongues wagging all over the Internet. The two confirmed the engagement Thursday. Kat Von D was even James' inspiration for returning to Twitter last week. "They say True love will always shine through. The only reason I started Twitter again? so I could publicly profess my love for @thekatvond." James Tweeted. She responded: "Thank you always supporting me and believing in everything I do. But most of all, thanks for being my best friend."
