Was Katie Holmes' decision to give stepdaughter Isabella the axe from her clothing company the actions of a cold and calculating stepmother or a woman preparing to part ways with her overbearing Scientologist husband? According to the Daily Mail, it was more likely the latter than the former. The 19-year-old daughter of Holmes' estranged husband Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman was fired from the Dawson Creek actress' company about two months ago. Although Isabella was supposedly shocked by the termination, it appears it was a preemptive move to get the young girl out before Holmes filed for divorce. An insider tells the Daily Mail the decision was more personal than professional, "There was never any trouble between them. Bella called Katie 'Mom.' She was fired out of the blue, and once Katie filed for divorce, it all made sense. This was a carefully planned ambush. Katie didn't want Bella working for her anymore because she was Tom's kid." Supposedly, it was the 33-year-old's first move to get out from underneath Cruise's reported iron fist. It appears it hasn't been mission impossible after all. Media outlets are reporting that out of fear of Cruise's strong affiliation with Scientology, Holmes decided it was best to blindside the actor with divorce papers in an attempt to protect their only child, 6-year-old Suri. Former Scientologist Karen De La Carriere says that Holmes had some very valid concerns. La Carriere tells the Daily Mail, "This was a very bold move on Katie's part, but at the same time she knows these are different times and she has more support. Katie ambushed Tom Cruise and in so doing outwitted some of the most controlling people on Earth."
