Dr. Derek Shepherd's days of making housecalls -- or any calls -- may soon be over. Although Grey's Anatomy has been a lifeline for comeback kid Patrick Dempsey, he maintains that he may pull the plug on his role after this season. The 45-year-old hunk has led the cast on the hit ABC show for seven seasons. However, the upcoming season will probably be his last making rounds. Dempsey tells Vanity Fair magazine that he's prepared to hang up his scrubs for once and for all. He says, "I do not know what's going to happen to the other characters, but for me it's done." He admits the decision is "bittersweet because it's been great a great part of my life. But I can't see me doing it anymore." Of course, Dempsey's rep is quick to set the record straight - probably pending future employment -- saying that although his contract is up at the end of season 8, no decision had been made, "He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds." Sounds like the Lover Boy actor definitely knows what his future doesn't hold -- and that's season 9 of Grey's Anatomy.
