Daniel Kerrigan, the father of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, died Jan. 24, and the autopsy results are in. The Kerrigan family is none too happy with the verdict, however. Daniel Kerrigan died after an altercation with Nancy's brother, Mark, who was arrested and charged with assault and battery on an elder with serious bodily injury. According to the coroner, Daniel Kerrigan suffered a cartilage fracture to the larynx area (neck), which was exacerbated by heart disease - the cause of death: homicide. No word on whether police plan to up the charges against Mark Kerrigan, but the family is said to be extremely upset that the medical examiner essentially put the blame on Mark. The family's attorney released the following statement: "The Kerrigan family is extremely disappointed that the medical examiner would release a cause of death without having all of the relevant facts. We believe this finding to be premature and inaccurate...The Kerrigan family does not blame anyone for the unfortunate death of Dan Kerrigan, who had a pre-existing heart condition." Coincidentally, Nancy's infamous altercation with rival Tonya Harding happened 16 years to the day when her father died.
