It shouldn't come as a surprise that Tommy Chong, one half of herb-loving enthusiasts Cheech & Chong, is turning to his favorite pastime to treat prostate cancer. The 74-year-old actor was diagnosed with the disease last month, and says he plans on going green to treat it. Chong tells CNN, "I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis." But don't expect his health to go up in smoke -- Chong actually quit puffing marijuana a year ago "for health reasons." That means he will drink hemp oil. He plans on doing so in the evenings so he "won't be woozy all day." Ironically, Chong started feeling symptomatic almost eight years ago when he was serving nine months in the Taft Correctional Institution for peddling bongs via mail. But it wasn't until last month that he was diagnosed. While some people might insinuate Chong's lengthy history with Mary Jane was a contributing factor, he insists that's not the case. He says cannabis isn't a cause; it's a cure. If anything, he blames the prison which was "built on toxic waste." Now, the marijuana advocate is more determined than ever to keep up the fight to legalize weed. He adds, "So [legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested." In the meantime, Chong will tour with the "Cheech and Chong" comedy act later this year.
