Desperate times call for desperate measures. Having relapsed for the umpteenth time, the ex-wife of Charlie Sheen is now fleeing the country to find help for her drug addiction. Brooke Mueller, the mother of Sheen's twin sons, is heading to Mexico to get her hands on a substance that's illegal in the U.S. that supposedly stops cravings for drugs. The experimental treatment known as ibogaine isn't all it's cracked up to be, according to addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky. Pinsky tells Radaronline.com that he's worried about the outcome if Mueller undergoes the treatment. He says that while it might be a temporary fix, it's just a band-aid. Says Dr. Drew, "In my experience people, after ibogaine, stop opiates for three to six months and then they begin again. I have had this experience with dozens of patients, but most disturbingly these patients had persistent mood and personality changes." Although it isn't available or legal in the U.S., other countries including Canada and Mexico do use ibogaine to treat addicts. At this point, Mueller is running out of options, having completed and relapsed after at least 15 rehab stints. Her latest was a 45-day outpatient program -- she went back to using within days. Experts have recommended Mueller check into a year-long rehab to get sober. However, Mueller isn't willing to do the time, according to insiders. One source says, "Brooke is absolutely desperate. She feels completely powerless to her addiction. Brooke feels that going to get treatment is Mexico is her only option. Brooke wants to be sober, but her addiction just too strong right now." Last week, Mueller was booted off a United Airlines flight after trying to get out of her seat and go to the bathroom while the plane was set to takeoff.
