Uptown girl and singer Alexa Ray Joel was seriously down in the dumps and tried to commit suicide over the weekend. She was rushed to the hospital Saturday after a friend called 911. The 23-year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley apparently attempted suicide after a fight with her boyfriend. Joel supposedly swallowed a bunch of pills. While some media reports maintain that they were sleeping pills, police officials said she tried to off herself after taking eight pills. A close friend, however, says she swallowed the homeopathic antihistamine Traumeel and began having trouble breathing. Alexa Joel was released after a few hours. Billy Joel released a statement that said his daughter was going to be fine. Friends say she has battled depression for some time now. In August, she posted on her MySpace account, "Is anybody else finding it a difficult "dating world" out there? I'm so terrible at dating - I don't know if I'll ever get used to it! And I HATE the game-playing! Can't stand it. I live in the greatest city in the world and I can't seem to meet an interesting guy who also happens to be NICE. Go figure..."
