Relationships are an investment. Of course if a relationship is clearly wrong, you should end it. But the tone of this article sounds a little too blithe for my taste. Sure, if you've dated a guy twice and don't like him for even a weak reason, dump him. But if you're married, you should look really hard at the issues, work with your husband to fix them, seek counseling, and take any steps you can to protect the multi-year investment you've made with your partner. You married him for a reason. You don't just drop the whole thing because some simple rule says you should -- with some rare and extreme exceptions, most notably physical abuse. And the same thing goes for long-term relationships, even if you're not married. Don't look at some rule book. You've got to think for yourself. If it's time to give up, then it is. But I recommend a cooling-down period of a week or two for a long-term relationship, as well as a lot of talking, including a neutral third party (such as a counselor), before making an irreversible decision about a long term relationship. I am a 36 year old woman who is happily married to a man that most women would die to get. He works hard, supports me, cooks, cleans, he's a musician who makes money, he's a wonderful supportive father, educated, self-controlled, thoughtful and down-right sexy. However, according to this article I should have dumped him years ago. No relationship should be all about one side. There have been times where we have had fall-outs because of stress, disagreements and extreme discouragements. Someone has to be the grown-up and women in America need to stop taking their advice from Hollywood celebrity relationships, movies and pop culture. Real relationships are about sacrifice. Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy. It keeps no record of wrongs. It always hopes, always protects always perseveres. Love never fails. This isn't just talking about how men are supposed to act. Also, look for a man who puts God first and keep God in the middle of your relationship and you will find contentment.
