The following are some of the tips that have helped Delaney stay at her goal weight for two decades:

  • Obey The 10 Percent Rule: When you establish a regular exercise routine, it's important to boost it up a notch over time. However, it's important not to push yourself too hard. Delaney suggests boosting intensity, distance or difficulty by no more than 10 percent every week. For example, if you're walking a 15-minute mile, try and shave a couple of minutes off of your time.
  • Be A Little Antisocial: When you're first getting started with your transformation, keep to yourself. Limit social outings, especially if they revolve around food. Work out by yourself. Avoid being around people you know in your diet and fitness endeavors. Initially, it will be difficult for them to differentiate between the person you used to be and the person you're working to become.
  • Take It Slow: Eat with smaller utensils or chopsticks. You'll be more likely to slow down your meal and take greater pleasure out of your food. Therefore, you won't be inclined to eat as much.
  • Be Wasteful: Dump the extra Halloween candy, the leftover birthday cake, the other half of that fattening sandwich from the other night. Before you throw the tempting treats away, make them inedible so you won't be tempted to retrieve them from the trash.
  • Create a Virtual You: Visit clothing Web sites like Land's End, which enable you to see what your body looks like with the My Virtual Model. Enter your goal size and weight to get a glimpse of what you'll look like at your goal weight. Or check out a photo site that allows you to tinker with your measurements. If you want to go the old-fashioned route, simply cut out your head and stick it on the body type you're working toward. Keep the image around - stuck to the fridge, perhaps -- for inspiration.
