Smell Good at the Gym

You know what really stinks? When you're working out at the gym and notice an extremely foul odor, only to discover it's coming from you. It goes without saying that you're not going to smell completely fresh when you're breaking a sweat. However, there are steps you can take to prevent reeking like a complete pig. For starters, bathe before going to the gym. Lather up with shower gel or soap. Wash under your arms and around other areas where odors might accumulate. Use a washcloth or loofah to ensure you are scrubbing away odor-causing bacteria. Once you're out of the shower, apply a quality deodorant/antiperspirant. You want a product that's going to ward off body odor, not just prevent perspiration. Always be sure to put it on prior to going to the gym. Some women also prefer to apply a light-scented body lotion before working out. Avoid wearing lotions that have strong fragrances as they'll come out more when you sweat. The last thing you want is to offend your fellow fitness fanatics by smelling like Pepe Le Pew's girlfriend.
The same goes for perfume -- pass on it until after your workout. Alternate gym shoes on a daily basis. Try not to wear the same pair every day. Also wear clean, cotton socks when working out. You may even consider lightly spraying your feet with deodorant foot spray. A good rule of thumb is to also select loose-fitting gym clothes made of 100 percent cotton. Workout clothes that wick away the sweat are also ideal. This will prevent odor from building up. Always make sure your clothes are clean and don't have an underlying mildew smell. If they do, the stench will come out in full force when you begin to sweat it out. By following these helpful hints, you'll come out smelling fresh as a rose every time.
