You'd never guess that young, beautiful Sarah Hyland suffered a life-threatening disease recently. The Modern Family star, who plays Haley Dunphy on the hilarious comedy, was facing serious health issues until her father stepped in. The 21-year-old Hyland reveals in Seventeen magazine's May issue that she has battled kidney dysplasia her whole life, and on April 13, her father donated one of his own kidneys to save her life. "You know that family is always going to be there for you - no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin' kidney!" she told the magazine while recovering from surgery. "But it's also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you're friends with." The Geek Charming star credits her costar and real-life boyfriend Matt Prokop with being an important part of her recovery. "He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself," Hyland said. "Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me."
