| McDermott's Real-Life Horror Story |

A resolution has finally come for actor Dylan McDermott in the case of his mother, who it was believed shot herself when the 50-year-old American Horror Story actor was just 5 years old. In February 1967, Diane McDermott supposedly shot herself after picking up a gun her boyfriend John Sponza was cleaning. Her death was ruled an accident at the time. Sponza, who lived with the family at the time, had ties to the mob and was found shot to death in the trunk of a car in 1972. McDermott had unanswered questions about his mother's death, so he contacted police last year, and the case was reopened. The Waterbury, Conn., police superintendent, who is handling the case, noticed that accounts of the incident didn't add up. "Sponza is telling the police that night that he very rarely, if ever, had arguments, yet everyone we spoke to, including Dylan, who was only 5 at the time, remembered very violent, vicious arguments. Dylan vividly recalls the amount of times, not only flashing the gun, but pointing it at the kid, saying, 'Shut up and get out of here.' He's still probably traumatized by that," Michael Gugliotti told the Republican-American newspaper. The state medical examiner reviewed the autopsy files and deemed that the weapon that killed McDermott wasn't the one found near her body. The Practice star did not issue a statement; however, his sister said, "I'm happy to know my mother wasn't mentally ill or depressed," she said. "Somebody took her from us; she didn't leave us."
