While most people would be despondent at the notion of spending the next five years behind bars, Amber Portwood is looking at the bright side of things. In an interview with Good Morning America, the troubled Teen Mom plans on getting the most out of her time in the clink. She tells GMA, "I'm not just going to sit. I'm going to do substance abuse classes. I'm going to get my GED." These are all goals that have so far eluded the 22-year-old reality star, who's been battling substance abuse and mental problems. Last week, the mother of one told a judge she had given up on a substance abuse program and would rather go to prison for five years. If she served her entire sentence, which she likely won't, her daughter Leah will be eight years old when the two are finally reunited. Portwood reveals that she "felt like I'd rather do my time and get it over with." While Portwood's decision may seem drastic, it may have actually saved her life. She admits that her issues were so serious she attempted suicide not once, but twice. Portwood recalls, "I was very depressed, overwhelmed, bitter at everybody and I didn't feel like that was the life I wanted to live." At her lowest, she consumed a bottle of Suboxene over a few days. She explains, "The depression took over. I'd just take four to five at a time underneath my tongue, and nod out. I had more than addiction problems. I had, you know, mental problems, too." Portwood has plenty of time to dry out. In fact, she's got nothing but time.
